Default Dehraadun Diary

EXPECTATIONS

As a film, Dehraadun Diary is seeing a sudden release for itself this week and with the music album arriving barely days before, there isn't much known about it either. The film has Adhyayan Suman in the lead, whose films so far, Haal-E-Dil, Jashn & Raaz - The Mystery Continues, have all boasted of some good music. This is the sole reason that makes one hope that lyricist and composer Hanif Sheikh has actually spun some tuneful songs.

MUSIC

Surprisingly though, it's guest composer and singer Ripul Sharma's title song, 'Dehraadun Diary (Title Song) ', which begins the proceedings. Put to words by Harsh Tyagi, this one turns out to be a short two minutes piece that neither intrigues nor excites and only makes one wonder whether it would play in the title roll or some critical junctures of the film.

From this point on Hanif Sheikh takes over and the beginning of 'Rubaruu' makes one remember 'Tere Mast Mast Nain' [Dabangg]. With a 'Sufi' shade to it, it turns out to be a safe outing with newcomer Jeffrey Iqbal going solo and giving a good account of himself. A melodic outing, it may not cover a huge distance due to the timing of the album release but would be a satisfying outing for those who have put this together.

Javed Ali is brought on board for 'Piya', yet another track which has just a male singer on the forefront. A fusion track with Indian classical presented with Western arrangements in the background, 'Piya' moves at a decent pace and turns out to be an okay outing overall.

A female voice is finally heard in the album with Kavita Seth behind the mike for 'Nishaan'. Unfortunately though, the wait isn't quite worth it as this sad song with a touch of soft rock to it doesn't really catch your attention beyond a minute of its play. In fact there isn't anything particularly impressive about the way Kavita sings this one as well, hence resulting in the overall impact being less than ordinary.

OVERALL

Music of Dehraadun Diary doesn't quite make you go 'wow'. Though 'Rubaruu' still has in it to call for some audience at least, rest just about fill in the album.

OUR PICK(S)

Rubaruu
