SAB has now joined hands with Anu Kapoor of Antakshari fame to produce a show titled Mehengai maar gayi. Produced by Anu Kapoor, the show will have Ashiesh Roy, Rajesh Balwani and rookie actress Jhumma Mitra amongst others. The cast except for Roy and Balwani is relatively new but with a strong theatre background.
Informs a source, “It's a satire on how mehengai affects various departments in government as well as society and how each one deals with it. This is an extremely funny script and considering Kapoor’s brilliance at such subjects, the channel is hoping that the latest addition to its bouquet would give rise to the viewership. We have worked for over six months on the script alone. The first story is about the Police department and how they deal with recession and the subsequent economic meltdown. Ashiesh Roy plays a hapless junior inspector on whom the buck is passed by all his senior officers to come up with ideas to cut the department's costs. Rajesh Balwani who was last seen in Dulhann will play Home Minister and Jhumma Mitra will be seen as the senior lady inspector. The story takes a close look at the country's socio-political and economic system.”
Says an elated Ashiesh, "I've always been a huge fan of Anuji and have grown up watching his plays in Delhi. So when he approached me, I dropped everything to be part of his project. It's a brilliant concept, and the audience is going to love it, when it comes on air."
Balwani said, “I have shot pilots for many shows so I wouldn’t be able to comment on anything as yet.”
When contacted producer-director Anu Kapoor directed us to speak to Fatima, project head of the show, who said, “We are still at the nascent stages and so can’t divulge anything right now.”
